Porisoi is a Guwahati based D2C brand that deals in 100% hand-woven products along with the upliftment of underprivileged rural women weavers in Assam. Started in 2022 with 1 village and 1 weaver and a single product line, currently we are shipping multiple orders across 20+ product line along with intervening in 8 villages and generating livelihood amongst more than 50 weavers across the district. We aim to deliver and provide access to authentic handloom from Assam across the globe. We are currently working in 8 villages of Nalbari district with over 50 female weavers but aim to spread out to other districts and eventually to the other states of north east for the larger goal. After working with Porisoi, the average income of a weaver has gone up to 50,000-60,000 annually who otherwise used to earn just 2000-3000 (not a fixed amount) in a year and their employment was mostly seasonal. After working with Porisoi, there is a positive shift of mindset not only among the weavers but also among the male household members. If asked what’s so exciting about this social startup, it’s the vision of a woman entrepreneur who is working on multiple level to bring development in villages and also revive traditional hand weaving techniques. We don’t sell products but experience, and the contribution our clients make in the villages are visible and transparent and this is what makes Porisoi very different from the rest.
